ATV and Off Road
Legislation effective August 1, 2005 allows a greater freedom for all-terrain vehicle riders choosing to ride in Minnesota state forests in our region. Off-highway vehicles can be driven on all state forest trails that are not designated as off limits for environmental or safety reasons. Warroad, with thousands of acres of prime ATV destinations right out our front door, is a great place to stay if you are planning an "off-road" vacation.
Check the Parks and Playgrounds page for detailed information on each of the following state forests:
Beltrami Island State Forest is just east of Warroad and spans an area of 66,903 acres.
Lost River State Forest is west of Warroad on Hwy 310 and encompasses 63,000 acres.
- Northwest Angle State Forest is north of Warroad located on Lake of the Woods.
Keep an eye on this site for updates on the current Rails-to-Trails project underway connecting Warroad to Roseau.
Snowmobiles are a common sight during the winter season in Warroad. Nearby Beltrami Island State Forest offers 120 miles of groomed trails. Even during years with minimal snow coverage, snowmobile enthusiasts can enjoy their sport on the snow-covered ice of Lake of the Woods. For trail maps, please contact the Warroad Chamber of Commerce.
